Will an AR-15 magazine fit an AR-10?
No — the magwells are different sizes. And SR-25 is the near-standard for large-frame ARs rather than the only pattern, so check the maker first.
An AR-15 magazine holds a cartridge family the AR-10 does not use, in a body sized for a receiver the AR-10 does not have. The magwell of a large-frame rifle is longer front to back and the magazine is correspondingly bigger. Nothing about the two is interchangeable, in either direction.
The part that costs people money is what comes next. There is no one AR-10 magazine, but there is a near-standard: the SR-25 pattern, sold as DPMS, LR-308 or .308 AR, which is itself derived from Armalite’s original AR-10 "waffle" magazine of the late 1950s. Armalite is therefore the ancestor of the standard rather than an exception to it — with one window in the middle, from 1996 to 2012, when the AR-10B used modified M14 magazines instead. The AR-10A brought the original pattern back in 2012.

Caution: Buy magazines against the rifle, not the category. "AR-10" on a listing does not settle which pattern a lower takes, and the exceptions are specific rather than general — check the maker and the model year before ordering. The same ambiguity applies to uppers and lowers.
