## Frequently Asked Questions

### What can I use TactGPT for?

TactGPT helps firearm owners and enthusiasts get fast, reliable answers across several areas: an introduction to firearms (terminology, types, safety concepts, starter recommendations), parts compatibility across models and brands, ammo ballistics and selection by use case, maintenance and care based on manufacturer guidance, summaries of state and federal gun laws from verified legal sources, and reloading insights grounded in published load data.

### What data is it trained on?

TactGPT is not trained from scratch. It uses an AI model that's prompted and augmented with structured, vetted firearm knowledge including manufacturer documentation, reloading guides, laws, and other trusted industry references. We avoid forum content or opinion-based sources to keep the info factual and reliable.

### Is this a local model or a wrapper?

It's currently building on top of OpenAI's GPT-4, with honed prompts and custom retrieval tools that fetch data from non-biased, factual, and trusted sources. This lets us be more efficient and reliable than a generalist AI or web search, while experimenting with vector-based retrieval and domain-specific context injection to stay accurate and firearm-specific.

### What does TactGPT cost?

TactGPT is currently in beta and 100% free during the beta. We're gathering feedback to understand if the product is useful. In the future we may explore a freemium model, but the core experience will remain accessible, especially to beta testers from the community.

### Is TactGPT legally reliable?

TactGPT is designed to surface firearm laws from official state and federal sources, but it is not a substitute for legal advice. We always recommend verifying with an attorney or local law enforcement for legal decisions.

### Can TactGPT help me build or modify a firearm?

TactGPT can provide compatibility insights and technical reference data, but it does not give instructions on manufacturing, modifying, or circumventing firearm regulations. It follows all applicable platform safety and compliance standards.

### What makes TactGPT different from ChatGPT or Google?

TactGPT is purpose-built for the firearm community. It prioritizes accuracy, uses trusted technical sources, avoids opinion-based content, and answers gun-specific questions faster and more clearly than general-purpose AI or search engines.

### Will my data be stored or tracked?

We do not track or sell your personal data. Anonymized usage data may be logged to help us improve the product (e.g., most common questions, error types). No personally identifiable info is collected aside from what you provide for your profile, and unless you choose to share your email for marketing updates.

### What is your data retention policy?

By default, your chats are stored until they've been inactive for 30 days. After that, all messages, images, and content uploaded for that chat is removed automatically. If you delete a chat, all of its message history and uploaded data is removed immediately. We intend to build more features to let users control their own data retention.

### Who made TactGPT?

TactGPT was made by responsible gun enthusiasts based in the USA.

### Does TactGPT support all types of firearms and ammo?

We currently focus on common civilian-use firearms and calibers (e.g., 9mm, 5.56, .22LR). We're actively expanding coverage, including ballistics data and compatibility info across more platforms, manufacturers, and load types.
